Telangana's Department of Tourism has an active homestay classification scheme (guidelines published on tourism.telangana.gov.in) inviting applications from operators of fully-built homestay rooms across district headquarters, rural areas and tourist destinations, classifying them into Silver (₹2,000 application/classification fee) and Gold (₹4,000 fee) categories, payable by DD to the Commissioner/Director of Tourism, Telangana; classified homestays are then featured in official state tourism listings. Andhra Pradesh, under its 2025–2029 Tourism Policy, is rolling out a homestay programme via the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA), with a documented local pilot in Visakhapatnam (through VMRDA) registering owner-occupied homes with 1–6 rooms, of which 100+ homes had been identified and over half assessed as fit for hosting as of the reporting period.
